How it works.

View the image to understand how solar energy produces electricity.  This is an example of a home connected to the GRID (your current energy source; PGE, SDE, etc.).

  1. The Solar array captures the sunlight as Direct Current (DC).
  2. The Inverter converts the DC current into Alternating Current (AC), to power the home.
  3. Surplus AC power is recorded on the meter as it goes to the GRID.
  4. At night or on cloudy days, you receive your electricity from the grid

NOTE:  If you weren't on a GRID or want to be off the GRID, you would need a battery to store the power for night time and if the grid is down.
